报告内容

The requirement for a better coherence of the X-ray beams, as well as advanced lasing modes of the free electron laser require electron beams with a lower emittance and energy spread. The phase space density in linear accelerators is decided at the source, whereas it is determined by radiation damping in synchrotrons. For this reason, we are planning different upgrade paths for SwissFEL and for the Swiss Light Source (SLS), our two state-of-the-art X-ray sources at Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI): An upgrade to the lattice of SLS requires replacement of the entire storage ring, whereas the injection chain remains unchanged. Conversely, SwissFEL would benefit of a replacement of the injector. In this presentation, I will outline present activities at PSI, and outline future plans that will provide users with X-rays of unprecedented coherence and brilliance.
