  Abstract:

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has been emerging as a powerful analytical tool for chemical sensing and biomedical applications. SERS offers “molecular fingerprint” information with high sensitivity and specificity, and is especially suitable for in-vivo bioimaging and chemical detection. With aim to develop SERS-based analytical assay platforms, we have been working to understand and screen the plasmonic substrates, and develop a series of applicable strategies to construct SERS platforms for detecting various critical biological molecules. In this talk, I will first briefly introduce the fundamentals of SERS, and then present our recent research on SERS tag-based assay strategies for detection of various bioanalytes and biomarkers, targeting the non-invasive early-stage detection of diseases. Our work highlights the advantages of SERS over fluorescence and other conventional techniques in bioassays and biomedicine.
