Abstract

In the frame of a general study on Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) laser driver chains for delivering large amount of energy induced from laser inertial    confinement fusion reaction, we investigated new pumping and cooling architectures schemes and new materials. The appropriated amplifier media for such an application require large thermal conductivity, good spectroscopic parameters and large sizes. Among the different amplifiers materials today available, Yb doped cubic sesquioxide (Sc2O3, Y2O3, Lu2O3), now available as ceramics, have been found to be good candidates for such an application. Unfortunately, the thermo-optical parameters of these media are unknown. Then, in this talk, I present the laser performances and the thermo-optical parameters measurements of diode pumped laser using such amplifier media. The results we obtained are fruitful for designing new lasers and amplification chains for IFE.
