The Central Laser Facility (CLF) is the UK's national centre for laser-based research infrastructure, supporting academic, industrial, and international users across the physical, life, and engineering sciences. This talk provides an institutional overview of the CLF's major strategic programmes and user facilities, including HiLUX for ultrafast laser and spectroscopy research, EPAC (Extreme Photonics Applications Centre) for laser-driven accelerator science, UPLiFT for laser inertial fusion energy technology, and Vulcan 20-20, a major upgrade of the CLF's flagship high-power laser. The CLF also supports a broad multidisciplinary user base through the Lasers for Science Facility, encompassing platforms such as OCTOPUS and ULTRA. The talk will highlight how this portfolio integrates user access, facility development, instrumentation, and long-term strategic investment within a single national infrastructure. |
